I am a Full Professor in Machine Learning, at the Computer Science Department, University of Pisa, where I am the head of the Pervasive Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (PAILab) and I coordinate the EIC-Pathfinder EMERGE project. I am currently the Director of AI research at Aptus.AI, and the founder and scientific advisor of the ContinualIST and QuantaBrain startups. I am an ELLIS member and the Vice President of AIxIA. Previously, I served as Senior Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, the chair the IEEE CIS Technical Committee on Neural Networks
